I have question about the reward system here in sl.

Why are people not rewarded for longtime play? {1yr, 2yr,etc}
I have seen that people get a chater membership from winning a contest.... The charter memberships were given to those who tested beta.

I think that a reward system<status,account type,etc> should be put into effect so that people get rewarded for being here. [ not those who never log in or log in 5 minutes and leave forever and such]

IMO it would give everyone something more to look forward to and more incentive. :)

Ah, "reward" can mean many things. One of the most effective ways I've heard to put this is simply:
"We make our own fun." -Tateru Nino
and as such, not always, but often, we make our own rewards too. There are longtime Resis who've accomplished a LOT, surely, but they didn't sit on their laurels--they're just still here along the ride to tell their tales, and perhaps continuing to create as well.

I think a very gratifying part of SL is how easy it is to set something up for a quick laugh, using the "atomistic" model of construction we have here. You can generate reactions in other people very quickly, adding to the social enjoyment--which, while not financial, is well-being and a reward unto itself.

So, inshort, time spent here alone doesn't necessarily signify much, but it's what you've done with that time. I don't know of a metric to measure that for a "reward", but I do think like offline, it's a unique expression of one's self.

I did have an idea awhile back, however: a Resident-run "nursing home", rewarding elderly Resis with a L$ retirement fund. "Where old avatars go!"

Since Second Life isn't a game, we don't have built in reward systems. But it might be fun to come up with a way to acknowledge longevity -- maybe in the form of anniversary parties, or some sort of token. Let us know if you have any ideas!
