Thanks for the reply to my first posting. The link you provided in regards to paying for tier in terms of Linden didnt really answer my question as clear as I was hoping so let me try to explain better what I was suggesting. Here is the link to my original post in the economy forum - Economy Question and Theory
What I was getting at with my posting was, regardless of conversion from L$ to USD, would it be an option for LL to offer residents the option of paying for a tier payment (this could be limited to once a month if profit loss is a concern) via linden dollars. The current exchange rate on the lindex could be used to calculate the appropriate charge in L$, and perhaps a small additional user fee (50L$?). My concern was more along the lines of providing a seemingly large sink (IMHO I think a LOT of residents would go for this option).
My second part of the suggestion was to have LL sell the incoming lindens (if they wished to re-coup possible USD longer term) that they receive via tier payments, via the LindeX. If all incoming lindens to LL (from tier payments) were posted at L$250 (or what ever the target is), they would sit on the lindex, effectively out of the economy for the time being. This *should* cause the value of the linden to raise sufficiently (in time) as there will be less L$ flooding the exchange (since people wont need to *cash out* to pay for teir) and there will be a healthy surplus of L$ at L$250/$1USD so that if there *is* ever a need for increased L$ in world, this level can be used to monitor it (although the amount of L$ on the market at this level would seemingly be 10's of millions eventually).
So as a summary, all im asking for is 1)feedback and/or suggestions on the above idea and 2) a response as to whether this is possible and if its an option that LL *may* be willing to persue.
Thanks a bunch!
Cheers,
Kirk
Thanks for the suggestion. We aren't really in a position to comment as to whether your idea is a good or bad one. One comment though, if we sold the Linden on LindeX they wouldn't be a sink as you suggest, as they would remain in the system, so I doubt we would see the results you suggest.
Even though they would still be in the system, they would be at a low enough price that they would effectively be "gone" untill the exchange rate dropped to L$250 at which point people would buy from the stock of L$250 linden posted by LL. Heck people affraid of losing money due to roll backs, etc can use the LindeX as a sort of bank... sell all their L$ at 1L$/1$USD... they pay no fee untill the money is sold and we all know it will never sell... effectively the money is "gone" from the system until they decide to cash out, or unless the exchange rate reaches that low.
