Harassed by Self-Nominated "Police"

Dear Torley,

I bought land today in Kamba and built a huge advertisment on my land for my group and a few of my products. The neighbor in the sim next to me started messaging all of my friends that are in my group asking why they deal with me and that if they know what is best they would get rid of me. With all this hostility I'm not sure how people in SL can handle her. I understand that the neighbors might not like the advertisments, I don't like them either. But advertisments drive business. It's that simple.

I've bought land a few times on SL and have been demanded by this person to return it. Is that right? This certain person has no right to be in my own business with my clients.

I'm really angry that this person keeps targeting me on this message forum and others and nothing is ever done about it. I try to ignore her but it just so happens she's a neighbor now.

Abuse reports and NOTHING is getting done. And I don't expect anything to because the things that I've done and the things this person done don't violate TOS in any way. As a matter of fact I applaud you guys for not getting emotional with your decisions and standing by the Terms of Services that we all agreed to.

ETA: There was that minor death threat that she gave me tonight, but it was on another message forum and probably doesn't fall under SL Toss, though she is referring to my SL name not any other name. But besides that...

The first thing I'll say is it sucks to hear how unpleasant things are for you. I'd like to clarify some things so you can have a better idea of what to do:

* Abuse reports regrettably take up to several weeks to resolve right now. This is frustrating both to Lindens and Residents, and yes, being so keenly aware, there's going to be improvements to the system to manage expectations better and speed up the process too. Provided you already sent in abuse reports with the details--including pasted-in snippets of harassed chat so the Abuse Team knows what to look for--you've done the best you can. Each time it happens, consequently, send more reports, because they ARE all on file and can be cross-referenced to look at the history of what happened.

* You can certainly mute your neighbor: View menu > Mutes. If you ban her from your parcel, which you're entitled to do, nothing she says will be heard. I know firsthand James Linden is working on more Mute features so "out of sight, out of mind".

* We unfortunately can't do anything about external forums, but if it helps any, stuff like this... it just gets burned-out and can't last forever. It changes, and eventually, I hope it ends.

* Your land is your land and this certain person doesn't have a right to tell you to "return it". So no, it's not right.
