SL, being in the Internet, is now an international resource (I assume you take payments from foreigners as you do from Americans! I haven't tried yet). You (probably) started off in California, but you can't assuem that other cultures will use -or want to use - the gestures and expressions which happen to be common in N America, so I think you should internationalise the thing a bit and expand the startup options.

Firstly, I suggest amending the initial standard Inventory items for things such as Gestures to include verbals such as 'Hello' as well as the N American 'Hey', and more usefully if you could provide as standard uptions the handshake, plus the sound/movement combinations for Namaste, Salaam (at least the major international ones; doubtless there are others) as these will be v useful to others who don't happen to use N American culture. It takes a lot of skill to make these things up yourself, so it would be better if you would provide them from stock.

Secondly, the standard provided AV options don't allow black skin. This is a curious omission, especially as the US has quite a lot of black people. I think you could probably privide a darker colour that the mid-brown which is the darkest I have found. I know one should not aim to be totally realistic in SL, and there are technical issues around depicting in a light-emitting source the characteristics of a light-reflecting source, and of course in RL black skin reflects different light to white skin, so some modelling of reflections might be tried (but there would be a performance cost). What do you think?

Thirdly, I'm on GMT and so is my display time, which is handy, but when people give times for events these are, so far as I can see, Pacific time. I have to do a bit of mental arithmetic to see when an event starts in GMT, and this is especially confusing when the date changes as well. Could you have 2 time displays; one always being Pacific/SL time, and the other local time?

thanks

Heya Bo and a warm welcome to Second Life!

As you may already know, we're a Resident-created world, which means our "users" make so much stuff. We mainly provide tools, and some examples.

So:

(1) Our Library doesn't have more international gestures, but many Resis have created 'em. Fleabite Beach made a "Ninhao!" polite Asian bow, for example. There's a lot more out there, perhaps you may want to ask in:

the Animations forum
/52/1.html

(2) We do allow tones of ebony and mahogany on the default sliders in Appearance! I know because I've seen avs like Zero Linden's. :) If you right-click yourself > Appearance > Skin tab > "Skin Color" button. Again, Residents have made numerous skins that provide, I must say, wayyyy better looks. You can look in this Classified forum:

/195/1.html

And you may also want to ask around in Products Wanted:

/147/1.html

and find out what is possible.

(3) Not sure where you want to put this time display--but some people use external time converter programs. If you mean inworld, then we don't have a built-in way of doing this yet, but perhaps it's an idea that if you click on the inworld clock, it could tell you. I'd suggest using the Feature Voting Tool and get your fellow Residents interested in supporting it. That way we have a better idea of how to prioritize it.

Also, you can change your forum Date & Time here:

Hope this helps. :)
