I like the fact that I can carry on a conversation with someone In World from Email - although I have to first be IMed from someone In World to do this.. Is there a way I can actually initiate an email message to someone In World?
I would certainly find this useful - there are times I need to send my partner a message while I am not In World (he usually is). He would see that quicker than me just sending him a regular email.

It is not possible to initiate an IM conversation from email, only to reply once a conversation is started. Spam considerations I believe are the primary reason that I believe we have no plans to offer such a feature. Sorry!
That said, integration with some external IM system is more possible (in the semi distant future).
