No Push vs Valid Push Usage

Greetings peoples,

I am curious as to how the up and coming "no push" features will act. Will they block any form of push on the avatar? Will they prevent vehicles the avatar is riding from being effected by push? Will land be able to be set for "push always on here", like the damage/no-damage land?

I have no interest in developing griefer tools, but I do have some legitimate plans for using push (for a game I'm planning), and the ability to block a "push" will basically remove all realism as well as provide a method for cheating.

While griefing is a major issue (bring back account verification), there are legitimate uses for pushing an avatar.

For every LSL function that is rendered useless due to griefers, there should be a parcel flag allowing an override for the "protection" when such a function is also used for legitimate purposes.

Of course, and pardon my "tone, if you people would simply bring back account verification, that might bring the level of griefers down a bit... not to mention aid in protecting children from the influence of Gor. Of course, it is the parent's responsibility to watch their kids online activity, but you wouldn't leave a handgun on the kitchen table and expect "Mom" to keep the kid from shooting itself.

Seriously... where is the sense of social responsibility??

"But people weren't finishing the signup process..."

Yeah... those were probably the kids.

Not happy about Linden Labs purchase of XStreet (formerly SLX) and OnRez. Will this mean LL will ban resident run online shoping outlets in favor of their own?

Burnman, it won't be a dumb on/off switch. The push restrictions will indeed take into account several valid push usages, such as if you're the owner of the object that's pushing and you want to propel yourself. The rules are still being formulated, and they'll likely be presented in Announcements & News as part of a Release Notes when closer to being finished.

We're also aware of how this might affect games... if you could please send me more info on the technical aspects of your game, or games inworld that already exist where push restrictions could conceivably be a problem, I'll be sure it gets to all the right place.

It's so hard--with every technological and social advance, there's always counterpoints! Nevertheless, we strive to consider it all and cut to the core.

We, as Linden Lab, can certainly give more tools to Residents to help them feel more in control of their own experience. Social responsibility is never an isolated thing--hence the name. It's a constant dialog, a conversation between us, and gains made in the name of bettering our world.

The very presence of anti-griefing tools being added in quick succession has been a blessing in these times--these things have been asked for in the community for so long and they're finally coming true!
