Sim restarts or better teleport protection needed

I just lost 12 hours of work today teleporting to a sim which decided it didn't like teleports after the new update. The attachment I was wearing had all but the root prim deleted without a trace (tried clearing cache etc, OTHER people saw it missing too).

Fortunately I've been able to piece it together, took an extra hour and a half but it's back to roughly how it was.

However, with my back-ups in hand I tried a few more teleports, and a handful of other sims have shown symptoms of being about to do the same thing (the TP 'froze' me, couldn't move, took forever to rez).

I'm suggesting a rolling restart to be sure, as other sims may be facing the same thing post update, and I'd hate to thing what value of goods other people might be losing!

What I don't understand though is how the object could have been so irreperably damaged by a teleport, surely the information is only REQUESTED? Not edited! 19 odd prims just removed from a link-set in an attachment leaving the root feeling sorry for itself, all child-prims gone without a trace. Not a nice bug, but unfortunately not enough information to file a bug report really, as there's nothing I can say beyond "Teleport and pray".

Otherwise the update seems okay I guess, but I still think it should have been left till later.

I've had this happen to me before too. As a workaround, I detached and reattached an attachment every now and then while working on it. Sorry to hear what happened. :(

I'll inquire further about the technical details of why this might have happened.

Please *do* file a bug report! Include the steps that happened as you remember them:
* I spent a lot of time editing an attachment
* I teleported to sim X
* I crashed (before / after) the teleport completed. I think (my viewer / the sim) was what crashed.
* I recieved the following error message when I crashed (if any)
* I logged back in and my attachment was my old one!

Any time this happens file a similar bug report, if it happens to anyone you know, have them file the bug report.

It is very difficult to fix bugs we can't repro, and it is even harder to fix the bugs that people don't tell us about. Every report might include another piece of the puzzle and also is a great help in judging the scope and effect of the bug.

Become a bug reporter!! Encourage your friends to file bugs! It is true most bugs don't get personal replies, but don't let that stop you! Replying to every bug report takes away precious time cataloging and reproducing the bugs. For this reason we have decided to only reply if more information is needed. But every bug report is read.

That said, yes I think saving of attachments needs some more work. I hope we can address it soon, and your bug reports will help.
