Easy way to subdivide land

Help!! There must be an easier way to subdivide land than making a bunch of little boxes and then linking them (answer I got from Live Help) but, for the life of me, cannot figure out what it is???

Hi Hope. "Linking" them sounds more like joining, than subdividing land. This, which you can also see in SL by pressing F1 for the Second Life Help Pages, is how to join & split land:
