Re: texture rezzing issues, we're watching this closely. I am continuing to document what's going on as we gather further info. Yes, things totally sucked at points yesterday--it was enough of a concern to me to log out and stay logged out for awhile. Some of you may have seen my Flickr photos too of blurry trees

Torley... I like you. You're really cool. But what you said in reply completly missed the point of my original post.

I know you are documenting things (they don't need to be documented, ask any resident!) but I'm asking here: what will you DO about it and WHEN?

Please, for all that is great in Second World... stop working on gadgets and trinkets that we do not need and instead focus for a while on fixing bugs and working on getting better performance, both server- and client-wise!

We don't need shiny new gadgets, what's the point in them if we can barely crawl, scripts are so sluggish I can't even access my in-world mailbox and texture load times are up to 30 minutes!

My suggestion stays: less bells and whistles, more performance. Implement 1.12 and then focus SOLELY on fixing bugs and getting better performance. Oh, what joy would it be to see release notes with 20 or 30 bugfixes listed... and if that would improve performance things would be even better.

Raavi, in the full interest of transparency and communicate what we do, here's how it basically goes:

- We hear about a problem affecting Residents in actual inworld usage.

- We then have to document and nail what exactly is happening. Often described as a "solid repro". Documentation is essential to explain WHY. (Ever got lost and needed a map to find your way?)

- Once the root cause is pinpointed, the problem can be tackled, prioritized accordingly.

- We don't want to give false hope by giving definites when they aren't true.

- Brent Linden did a great, more detailed writeup explaining about the process.

I'd show the internal file we have on this if I could. :)

So, answers re: the slow loading of textures:

What will we do about it?
We're going to fix it, of course. Hell, it bothers the heck out of me!

When will it be fixed?
I don't have a confirm on that yet, but as has been the case many times before--we have quite a track record now, including my thousands of past posts. We will certainly announce when it's fixed. In the meantime, more information gathering.

"No good doctor operates on a patient without understanding the illness."

What you suggest is an ideal world. The reality is quite different, but we'll continue to work at it. Because we give a damn. For you and all our Residents.

Since this is such a PITA, I'm going to mention it in our Announcements & News. Please also notice that past problems have been dealt in the same way, mentioning problems and the followup resolution. :D

P.S. We've had Release Notes with that many bugfixes listed before. Count 'em up here: http://history.secondserver.net/index.php/Release_Notes
