Hi!

I've just been reading about the upcoming upgrades to class 5 servers which had me wondering. A few people in my home sim (Wainscot - sim308.agni.lindenlab.com) have been complaining about the sim getting very slow. I've tried one of those FPS balls which typically reports about 44FPS but has once or twice dropped to <1FPS which is worrying.

I tried to disable a few scripts that aren't important. I also use objects that dispense their contents when bought, rather than a scripted vendor, yet the sim still seems VERY slow. I've lowered my graphics settings as far as I can realistically and I've got negligible increase in performance. I'm also not seemingly losing (m)any packets.

Where I'm going with this is: Will a Class 5 server rectify this problem or is it someone (maybe me?) hitting the sim too hard with scripts etc? Wainscot isn't usually this bad, but recently it's been awful! And is there a timetable for Wainscot's upgrade?

Cheers!

Hi Landing,

New Class 5 machines should offer higher, more consistent sim-side performance for heavily-loaded regions, especially when there are a large number of scripts running. As for why your particular sim is slow, you should definitely contact a Liaison and file a support request to have it investigated.

As for when existing sims will be upgraded to Class 5 machines, Ian posted about that here: http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/10/16/looking-forward-to-class-5/#comment-9918

Take care,
