Incremental client download

I apologize in advance since I suspect this question has been asked repeatedly before- however, I couldn't find it in search.

Does Linden Labs have a plan to move to "incremental" or partial client (viewer) updates at any point in the near term future?

All client downloads are currently "complete" downloads- the entire 25+ megabytes of the client is transferred and installed. Presumably, most updates do not change all 25 megabytes of the code. Other vendors (E.G.: Sony, Blizzard) do incremental patches because they absolutely have to: their clients are several gigabytes, so re-sending the whole thing every time there is a minor change isn't realistic. Second Life's smaller client makes full downloads feasible, but not necessarily always desirable.

Switching to an incremental/differencing client update process would benefit Linden Labs by reducing the load on their servers for each patch, and benefit the residents who have to wait for the download. If it isn't feasible for some reason, it would be helpful to understand why.

Thanks!

Tomas--yes, this has been asked over the ages, but good news is we've got an update on this update. ;) It's become increasingly relevant, given our growth.

The topic also came up in the comments here:

Currently, we're actively investigating exactly what you suggest. I couldn't word it better.

I think as we can get closer to actually doing this--it seems inevitable but we'd rather have hard details--no ETA so far, but we'll be announcing the improvements.
