I have read the discloser on copy rights. Though I am not clear to one part. Are we alowed to show copy righted movies in SL in amovie theater? I ask this cause I am opening one. I see many others some who are playing 200+ movies. So I highly doubt they have permission for them all.

I am guessing it is ok cause it isnt a "public" viewing. Anyone watching is watching from there homes. Not to mention how many live DJ's there are who arnt paying royalities to play music for people in game.

I just want to know in advance so I am sure I am not going to get banned for doing this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

EDIT: Ok after reading more what I get from the laws governing this is as long as I dont edit the movie, and as long as I dont that the person hosting it is breaking a copyright I can knowingly show them in game. Please correct me if you guys at LL have a differnt meaning.

Sompto, basically: if you're not the copyright holder and you don't have the legal rights to air the movie, don't play it. :) If you have questions about the fine legalities involved, I'd consult a lawyer, but in Second Life, we like to encourage original creation by *you* whenever possible.

If the original copyright holder finds out you're infringing on their rights, they could file a Digital Millennium Copyright Act takedown on "your" stuff.

Yes, you can be suspended and banned for IP Infringement. Please be sure to read this document, if you haven't already:

So in any case, it's best to be in the clear.
