Considering that SL is now overrun by moron griefers who are terrorizing the hell out of eveyone in sight, are the NORMAL residents of SL allowed to use weapons in self-defense?

No, not in safe areas.

Yes, in unsafe areas.

If there's a heart on top of the screen with a %, an area is fine for combat!

Many Residents have poorer aim than they might claim. I was repeatedly hit as a NORMAL bystander in the past when griefers were being fired at. Bullets can travel a long way--far beyond reasonable draw distance.

I hope one day we'll attain "true mute" so griefers become like mere ghosts on an astral plane; then, not even shooting will be needed. And in the here and now, more tools are being added ASAP.

It's always important to file an abuse report with sufficient data too. I lament the times a repeat offender coulda been kicked out of SL sooner but didn't, because abuse reports simply were not filed when assault happened! :(
