New Intimate Chat Range Needed

I would like to suggest that a third "intimate chat range" of say within 6 meters be added as an option for conversation in world. We have conversation chat which allows an audience to receive what is said as far away as 20 meters and shouting which can be heard up to 96 meters away. However, I hear frustration voiced often among individuals who live in close quarters in sl (including apartment living) that chat is overheard through walls, that groups of 3 or more can not talk without checking to see if they are being overheard. If a third option for chat at an intimate level of within 6 meters and closer were added in game, perhaps this might be a remedy for some frustration in this area? We have talking and shouting as options. Why not something akin to just above a whisper?

Anna, judging from your birthdate, you may remember a feature that was called TALK TO. This allowed for quite "intimate" conversations as you may recall. It also was quite buggy and prone to various glitches, like if two people near each other sit on cubes, do the TALK TO within range, and then stretched out across a great distance, they could hear each other and additional interlopers inbetween could too (!).

As much as I don't like it sometimes (because it doesn't show cues like typing animations), I'd recommend using Instant Messaging for this. Beyond that, I'd garner support from fellow Residents and set up a proposal in the Feature Voting Tool, or vote for a preexisting one if it fits your vision:
