Dear Governor,
I'd like answers to the following questions. Overall, I do not like my Second Life right now. Ok, that's due partly to my first life being miserable this morning, but to then find my second life is no less miserable just adds salt to the wounds.
1) My relaxing little rotating floaties are more like sitting on a spinning top right now. I think there was a change in how things rotate. Will this be fixed, or is this an intentional change in the speed with which things rotate? If it was not intentional, could you please provide an estimated date/time this will be repaired?
2) I like seeing Second Life, and at the same time, talking to people, both near and far, publically and privately. There are enough things I put on my screen, like stats, mini-map, chat history, and IM box, that my veiw is partly blocked, and therefore limited. A new feature seems to want to insist my IM box will be a specific size, no matter what I want. Should I expect this to stay, or, if your intention is to return my IM box to my control, could you please provide an estimated date/time I will have control of my IM box?
3) Backups/restores before transactions allowed. I think there is probably universal concensus that your upgrade of 2006/09/13 has been one of your more problem-plagued updates in a while. Certainly, it's the worst I've seen in my 15 months here. I recognize the problems with software updates, and I can appreciate the monumental task you have with each update. Have you considered halting interworld transactions (no buying/selling lindens, things that go between RL and SL) immediately following any upgrades for several hours, so you can see if you have a stable product, then allowing transactions again, or, in the event you have a product like the one released yesterday, you could restore to the point when the world went offline, and simply announce to everyone that the time spent after the attempted upgrade did not occur? Your current process allows you no room for error, in that you cannot restore all of second life to pre-update status due to interworld transactions being lost. Halting these transactions, and creating a backup at the point the world is taken down for an upgrade, and maintaining the block on interworld transactions for a few hours after going live with a new update would give you the option to restore all of second life in the event of a seriously faulty upgrade like the one yesterday. I believe there are many that would rather have the few hours of fun and possible productivity lost with a restore, than to have to live with such problems as this upgrade seems to have (can't move much of the time, packet loss, scripts broken, user interface less useable, etc).
Ok, I think I've given three specific questions that are asking for relatively simple answers. My apology in advance for my probably being overly wordy in constructing them and the context they are being asked in, in order to help you understand specifically what I'm asking.
