When creating a new group, what does the "mature" option do or not do?

Hi Kritter, it simply signifies that the group created will be one involving Mature content. For example, a group for a sex club, or BDSM toys. It will also only show up on a website search from secondlife.com if the Mature option checkbox is ticked (there's a current bug involving this which should be fixed soon).

However, the group information itself can't contain Mature content (e.g., sexually explicit photos or language) because that content is broadly viewable as it says in the Community Standards:
Global Standards, Local Ratings
All areas of Second Life, including the www.secondlife.com website and the Second Life Forums, adhere to the same Community Standards. Locations within Second Life are noted as Safe or Unsafe and rated Mature (M) or non-Mature (PG), and behavior must conform to the local ratings. Any unrated area of Second Life or the Second Life website should be considered non-Mature (PG).
Hope this answers your question.
