the sim in which I have planted my flag is usually rather quiet. there are a number of plots that were first land where the owner places a few objects and then never came back. I and my neighbors have im'd them to see if they are willing to sell or finish or do something and have not gotten a reply. I know of a couple places that unless the people come in the middle of the night and do not get the offline messages, that have not had any traffic from the owner
I went around the sim and posted coordinates that were littered from a griefer attack months ago, littered with freebies that were left on linden land, or plots where the owner had not been seen nor replied to im's about the property (they are always offline). Land management was good to clear up some of these problems.. some were unresolved on linden owned land (eg prim works left behind) and others were deemed as not abandoned. I don't want to be bothersome to those people if they're still utilizing the property, but I'm there all the time and never see anyone.

so my question is, when is land abandoned? is there a time frame beyond 4-6 months? thanks in advance for the education

Hi kalik, basically, land is abandoned either when (1) someone doesn't pay for upkeep of their land anymore and it reverts to Governor Linden ownership (shortly after going deliquent the land will automatically be abandoned) or (2) you can intentionally abandon it in About Land with the Abandon Land" button. It's nice to come in and do upkeep to one's land if autoreturn time isn't turned on, for the reasons of tidyness as you mentioned.

If land still shows as being owned by a Resident's name, then it is *not* abandoned.
