1.12 Groups - A hole in the design

Hi Jeska & Torley!

I've submitted several bug reports on the preview grid re:1.12 groups, and the feedback from QA indicates that this 'hole' isn't currently being worked on - however it was suggested that I should bring it up to Jeska & Torley from the community team for consideration.

So, here I am :)

Here is the problem, and a (hopefully) simple solution:

The new group tools in 1.12 are *fantastic*, and offer some amazing capabilities that may even lead to the reduction of the number of groups that we need.

However, in order to take advantage of any of these permissions - such as the ability to set one's home point to the group land - or to receive group notices, one must be a member of said group that owns the land.

That's all fine & makes sense, right? Well, here's the problem:

The way the groups are setup right now, *anyone* who is a member of the land-owning group can avoid the autoreturn cleanup set on the parcel. Since objects are automatically set to group when one has their group title up, this is especially problematic for my situation, and many others.

I want to be able to invite new residents to my group, and allow them to set home to the Shelter if they choose. However, allowing them to rez their freebie boxes without anything to clean them up automatically will be enough of a deterrant to not use much of this functionality.

Here is a potential solution: Create a permission for "Allow user to set their objects to this group".

Users that did not have this permission granted, but had their group title up: would have their objects set to [none] when rezzing objects.

This would allow me to grant the ability of folks to set their home to the Shelter, and receive the new group notices.... without worry about the parcel being strewn with errant prims. Setting the "No Build" flag is not an option because: how will we help new residents open newly aquired freebies?

Thanks in advance for considering this! :)

I'm going to aggregate and digest this and see how it might play out in my head so I can understand it better--then I will have it entered into our list of things to do for the Groups system in the future. Realistically I don't think this will happen for awhile because we're currently working on stability so we can get 1.12 out *soon*, but I definitely want to have a record of it so when future sweeps for feature adds happen, we can look at it clearly. Thanx Travis!
