I remember hearing something about a "second generation streaming engine," back in the day. Is this still being worked on?

The only thing that might qualify in this regard is the Firefox / Mozilla integration. It should allow streaming via webpages in the UI or in world of anything (or nearly enything, hedge hedge) that Firefox is able to stream.
Firefox / Mozilla integration is moving forward. As you know the F1 help menu is using mozilla. There are features and bugs to be finished and fixed, but we are moving forward.
If this is *not* what you meant, then I'm sorry I don't know.
