Forum lag is a priority issue!

In a previous post I had said:

I hope this problem will be taken seriously, as lag in the Forums seems to be getting worse and worse. I am not exactly logged in at "Peak" time ( 12:09 am PST Sunday), and it just took over 100 seconds for the Forum main page to load.

I am not experiencing this problem on any other forum I frequent.

As th SL forums represent a
VITAL means of communications from the Lindens to us, and for us residents to communicate with each other, this needs to be fixed A.S.A.P.

Please Torley, don't let this problem go ignored.

To which Torley graciously replied:

Hi Daaneth! Regrettably, as I type this to you--in the moments before, when pressing the Reply button, I experienced a similarly arduous wait.

The forums have not been forgotten. But having the reality of only so many resources and many things to work on, the forums aren't as high a priority as some of the other issues to tackle. For example, I often get complaints from new Residents saying how hard it is to find help info on the forums, or they're scared to post because of the negativity. Thus, that's why we've invested in projects like F1 Help and are making other efforts to better communicate with our community... it's *uber* important.

Scaling-wise, it's difficult to keep up with what's happening on the forums. For Lindens, there's a lot of noise and not much signal in ratio. Part of my job, of course, is finding that signal and directing it to the adepts in the know, so that important issues can get addressed efficiently, and hopefully, elegantly (we like to do things with style).

I, however, am only one person with so many hours in a day--and I myself am looking towards better means. We've been migrating into a new knowledge base that's more powerful and easy-to-use than the previous one:

http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/

and with the growth of our world comes the rise of more Resident-run forums.

And, BTW, blogosphere-wise, we're aggregating content out there.

Since Second Life is Second Life, it also makes sense we're investigating more means of inworld communication too. (Hint hint.)

I've got no date for when the forums will get an update, but you're bound to see more outreach from us to communicate. This includes the recent Community Team updates on Robin's blog:

http://secondlife.blogs.com/change/

and there's going to be more!

Thanx for your curiosity and concern! :)

My response to the Lindens is this:
Forum Lag is a important issue. Migrating the Forums to a heftier server with a fatter pipe ought to be near the top of the to do list. While I am glad that other means of communications are being developed, the Forums still remain primary. Please, can we get one of the Lindens besides Torley to give use an outline of how and when this issue will be addressed, and telling us "someday, maybe" just doen't cut it.

BTW - It took 57 seconds to load the main page today, and another 73 to get into this sub forum
.

My reply is consistent policy, Danneth.

We don't have more plans precisely for the reason I stated.

But psst I'll tell you what you can do... how's this: set up a Feature Voting Tool proposal. :) We both know how much you care about this, and while that tool is usually used for things in Second Life itself, it's worth a go. It's super-important to get a broad swath of the community involved. After all, if that's what the forums are for... your fellow Residents and you can join together.
