SL Grid is Down. How bad is it?

I was forced to log out because your grid was wacky. When i log the alt in (to same location) there I am still standing. Lo and behold snapshots and bug report doesnt work.

I log the alt thinking that will fix it.

I try to log back in 'the system is currently logging you out...' with the time set to 22:59 and change for me tog et back in.

Annoyed, I wait.

NOW its saying 23:03

So.. when are you going to fix this bug?

Don't tell me to file a bug report because I can't even get in game.

edit: it may have been because you were trying to log me into a sim that is in the red and offline - maybe you should fix that redirector

My acct is pay i pay big money be here every thing is accountd for so why the hell can I not log on til 11 50 and all others can log on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1????????????????????

grid is down and no blog post... tsk tsk...

!!!! What's this mean?

This is the message I get as I try to log-in. I've never seen this one before. Kinda scary.

The grid goes down without a warning, and the only thing the blog says is that it's down due to asset problems (as usual), and logins are restrickted to lindens only "while you bang on things"

You wanna at least give an estimate on how long this will take?

Give it to us straight for once. How bad is the server issue? Will our inventory and rezzed items be there when the Grid goes live again? What is the estimate for when it will be back live?

When a plane is having problems, the pilots keep coming on with as much information as possible. It makes the passengers relax, even if they are losing altitude. Please don't ignore us during this stressful time.

Trust me, we aren't ignoring you. As we get more information we'll let you know. Right now the engineers are working with the hardware manufacturer and the estimate is that the SL Grid could be down another 5 hours, hopefully less.

I am not one to complain often or publicly on the forums. But here goes ...

I want you to know that this latest outage is highly frustrating, not just because of the downtime, but because of the lack of information. Your last half-dozen blog posts have not done anything to inform us as to the nature of the hardware failure, the scale of the problem, and the potential fallouts after recovery. Moreover, they have not given us a sense of comfort in your projected timeline.

To add insult to injury we are told "Get some sleep, go for a walk, give your First Life a chance!"

Look, I know you are as frustrated as we are, and that you are working hard to resolve the problems. Just understand that SL is not just a game for some of us. Having invested thousands of RL dollars here, and currently suffering easily calcuable losses for each hour we are down, I would just like to be treated like a customer.

Can you please provide us with a factually informative update as to what is going on?

The grid is down for maybe another 5 hours because of a hardware failure?

Was there no back up system in place. How can one hardware failure be allowed to take down the whole of Second Life.

I was reading the wonderful book, Second Life:the official guide. The book ends with a chapter on the future of SL with pretty imaginative speculation. However there will be no long term future if hardware failures like this can not be dealt with quickly and promptly.

I wonder how many new users today will not now bother because they can't sign up.
