Re: Verification to access forums?!?!

Well, that's one less avenue of resource that a large segment of the population is cut off from for help....Newbie residents here to try out SL on a free account. Resident Answers are access for...RESIDENTS, be they verified or unvarified. Many of our new residents, as you (Linden Labs) have often said are international with hardly any access to a credit card or PayPal. Linden Labs has alienated, and effectively banned a large segment of the population from a wonderful resource and wealth of knowledge; all because of a few bad apples. (Does this sound familiar?...think history).

Is it fair? IMHO..no. But then that's exactly what many residents do too...banned from parcels based on payment status.

My primary concern on this issue, is to have unvarified accounts to have ACCESS to the knowledge. I didn't say they could post or edit...READ ONLY ACCESS. Many times a resident will ask another, verified resident to post in the forums for them legitiment questions that the other resident; be it a Mentor, Live Helper or other, to post questions on the forums. Read only access to unvarified account holders can then have access to the ANSWERS without having to wait on the other resident to log in to get the answer for them. Or better yet, they can browse the answers themselves because the same question may have been asked before in the past that is outside the scope of the FAQ or the F1 help button.

My question is then, is this do-able and if is, would LL be willing to grant Read Only Access to the unvarified account holders.

I'll see if we can set the permissions to allow read-only access. This would assume that the individual had logged into SL also.

Longer term we're looking at other options for identity verification, so we don't have to rely on whether or not someone has given us payment information. Until then, unfortunately, ppayment info is the best option we have.
