Hiya,
Have had a few questions bounving around in the empty space of my head so thought I'd post them here since I have teh time waiting on the update. =^.^=

Thanks in advance to any and all for any answers.

1) Why does that ugly "base" (seafloor?) ground load so fast, but gass doesn't? Is there a way we can get the regular land textures to load the same way as that base? Or is there a way those textures can be added to our main install viewer? Perhaps as an option to DL or not? Like some games do the partial or full install.

2) I know LL's stance on the 16m plots displaying ugly billboards is a "hands off" measure as long as there are no lagging scripts or other CC violations involved. Would it be possible to come up with a way to block the sight of these things for landowners next to them? Preferable without us having to blow prims to put up one-way walls with textures of sky that are almost as intrusive to the view.

With most neighbors, a person can talk and compromises can be reached. These "ad managers" never reply to IM/Notecards and will not even dicuss the area landscapping short of using "land extrotion" to "sell" the micro-plot off at outrageous prices.

Will LL help us find a solution?

3) With prims on land always at a premium, are there any plans (near or far reaching into the future) to try to reduce the resources needed for a prim so as to allow more to be used per sq meter? A pure fact of SL is that to look decent, prims are needed. Textures can go a long way, but they reach a point where 3D is needed in a 3D world, and 2D images just can't do a lot. Many houses are set and bare inside due to running out of prims. I know LL is aware of this, and was jsut looking for a feel of how this is being looked at?

4) Roads.....Are they being expanded, or are they at a standstill? The one out in front of my home has been about 100m short of my house since I built there in Feb. I understand that many other things are more important, but this is one of the "simple" things that just adds to the "feel" of SL. If a Resident can help by placing prims (and without jeprodising any security of land and objects) for the Linden(s) involved, I, and several other Residents, would be more than happy to volunteer our services to help build them.

5) Along with the above; Any update on how the simborder-crossing issue in going? Not holding anyone to any answer (things like this change so fast), but I'd personally like to know if any progress is being made. Even if it's just a "Yes, I (or xxxx Linden) am still working on it. Slight progress, but having major difficulties due to blah blah blah....". I love driving/flying but I have a major frustration crossing the borders with the current snapbacks, sinkings, and general SNAFUing that happens during crossing.

6) Is there a Listing of what all job(s) each Linden does? Not to bother individuals, but if I know who works with what, I can post with ATTN: to those individuals. Would also make Torley's job of forwarding relevant information a bit easier as well, I think.

With this, would it be possible to also list (perhaps in a seperate Linden-only post thread) of what Features are being worked on or planned? With a place to post Feedback, I think LL might benifit from this as Features that are not desired could be given reasons why not. Unfortunately, those who complain (read rant) will be here as well. I still think it would be worthwhile, but that's a call LL management needs to make.

That's about it for now *grins* Thanks for the work. I really do appreciate it. Figured I'd get the thanks in now before the bug reports I'll file with the update ;)

~Jessy

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

Heya Jessy--

1) This is very much dependent on factors like the speed of your network connection; I know the effect you're describing. Simply, there has to be a placeholder terrain texture while others are loaded. I imagine the gray object loading texture wouldn't look very appealing on the ground. There aren't plans to hardwire this into the viewer but I've heard similar suggestions (e.g., perma-caching the Welcome Area). I agree it could be better.

2) Yes, long-term we hope to, after we are done solving many things leading up to it. The thing to keep an eye on right now are the Mute features being added. We already have true audio mute that silences sound spam, and requests for muting particle spam have been made too. How's this relevant? Easy--the holy grail and grand vision is "true mute", optimistically extensible to something similar to:

http://secondlife.com/vote/vote.php?get_id=905

No target date on this, and it's a longer way off--again, behind many things being worked on leading up to it, because the right pieces have to be put in place. It definitely means we are climbing the mountain with you to find a solution, so keep watching for achievable progress being made with more anti-griefing tools.

3) Important thing to remember here is how computer technology keeps getting faster, working in our favor. I know there are some ongoing projects to improve efficiency with the asset server, but first, are general viewer optimizations to boost local FPS because we still hear many concerns about how SL in its current state is too "laggy". So that's got to be worked on first.

4) Depends which, but please go ahead and let Guy Linden know in SLLM if you haven't already:

/145/1.html

We've been mulling getting Resident help in some cases, but no firm plans on that because of other content projects taking priority and keeping us busy, like adding more regions to the mainland, period.

5) Yes, I replied: /139/e4/128407/1.html so hope that helps :)

6) THIS WOULD BE SO AWESOME. Or at least, where it lists the account type in a profile, to say what Linden does what. Internally, we have a Who Does What list--I'd like to see a public version of that. For our management, we have a list:

http://lindenlab.com/management

but of course that doesn't list many Lindens. There've been some office efforts to encourage filling out of Linden profiles and clarify "THIS IS WHAT I DO!" but it's been so busy. I'd like to see an area of the website set up for this, sorted by team. Like, I'm on the Community Team and Resident Experience Team.

And as for what could be 7) ;) I don't think we'll want to do that on the forums. The Official Blog of Linden Lab is taking hold:

http://blog.secondlife.com/

and we'll see more growth, including what's coming up ahead, as written and reported by a diverse variety of Lindens. I plan to update regularly with what I'm working on, for example.

Ultimately, we aspire to using this to give greater focus to communicating with our community, as well as to have the info easy to find.

There's no shortage of suggestions--I get many in my personal inbox that also show up on the forums, blogs, etc.--but key here is prioritizing and making visible action. Previews are good for that--since that's exactly what they're showcasing; a sneak peak at the future!

Hope this helps. =^_^=
