I would like to hear LL's stance on the PG vs Mature ratings within SL when a valid credit crad is no longer required for signup as proof of age.
I know that minors can obtain credit cards and such and get on in any event, but I beleive the number was low and such was weeded out when found. Now, however, some very serious issues are popping up.
With the removal of this "watchdog" service, how are we (the residents) to operate? Are residents on that non-certified account being restricted to only PG sims? If not, how are we to protect ourselves? This not only pertains to the "cyber sex" industries and people whom enjoy such, but also to those who indulge in other social activities that are concidered "mature". Language, nudity, aadult situations, etc.
As it stands, I see SL opeing up to a heck of a lot of trouble while "contributing to the deliquency of minors", as well as opening the doors for minors to engage in "mature" content wihtout parental concent.
With all due respect; Have you spoken to your legal staff before doing this?
A very concerned and worried resident, ~Jessy

Hello once more Jessy... Some things have not changed at all: a date of birth is still required when signing up for SL. And as I've explained earlier in a related response, we can't force being honorable. For practical matters, we have lots of Linden Liaisons on the frontlines watching out for any actual bursts in teens on the Main Grid of Second Life for adults. Residents should continue to live their Second Lives the way they did before--if someone says something like, "I'm 14!", then HELP menu > REPORT ABUSE with sufficient details. But no need to be a watchdog... that's our job! Legally, we have, and continue to comply with COPPA. So, to be proactive, I'd recommend not being paralyzed by the fear of, and instead, to address the actual specific issues if they come up. As in, actual admitted teenagers, not speculated ones. Leave the verification procedures to us; no worries there. Registration can always be changed back to "the old way" if it gets really bad! Hope this helps clarify some things.
