Small private islands.

Would LL ever consider selling smaller (about 1/4 the size), and cheaper private islands? I'm sure more people would buy them, plus it's more flexible for people if they just want a little more land on their current private island. Is there a technical limitation to how many seperate sims could be on a server? Or would this not worked because all sims are the same size?

Alas, it's not possible to do this currently. Each region which makes up a square of the grid is 65536 m2. So yes, the same size. However, I have seen some configurations between friends and trusting business partners before, where an island was subdivided into quarters and rented out.
