Why do we have roads?

I love them!! They look great! Kudos to whomever has ever worked on them all!!!

But they don't work.

I love driving along in my Dominus Shadow. It's fun and the scenery throughout SL is breathtaking. Places found while driving along bogel a person in the scope of thier creation. You can find things driving that you never would flying or even by using the Search features. People build on the ground, and even though they -know- in thier heads that this is a virtual world, most still think on a RW physics level and build for the look as if standing on the ground.....or from the roadside.

Simlines make driving a complete frustration, however. (I imagine those who love to fly all those great flightcraft have it even worse). Some vehicle makers (like DoMoCo) have installed "auto-stop" scripts which stops you at simlines to prevent the worst of the effect. While working somewhat, it is not a permanent solution. I found one turn in a road where the road is on FOUR simline intersections. The result? I went overland at a billion kph with no way to steer until I went offwolrd and had to log. This crashed me so bad I was forced to reboot my system to even open up SL again.

Can this be fixed, or is anyone working on it even?

If not, I'd suggest deleting all the roads and putting that land up for sale to residents to allow it to be used in a way that actually works.

Hoping to be driving soon,

Jessica, hello. There was a time when the corners of sim crossings were known to be SL's equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle, because avatars would often get thrown off and "lost" to the void, save for relogging. Frustrating indeed! I remember back in my early days, in 1.5.x, when I'd cross normally and lose many attachments. Well, they weren't actually gone--they just did not show up, necessitating further relogs.

Sim crossings still continue to be difficult because of how the information needs to be passed, "handed over", from one server to another when travelling. At high velocities, no doubt, you've experienced disconcerting "snapback" like a rubber band when not in a vehicle with compensation scripts, such as the Dominus Shadow.

It's not the roads themselves that are problematic, for this reason. Please do know this matters a lot to us too--I hope crossing between regions will become increasingly smooth in the future, as they've already been improved, and will continue to be.
