Ok now I'm really confused.

I posted two comments in the 'groups' thread on the blog.

One is awaiting moderation, one went straight up.

Obviously now it's not dependent on the thread, or the poster, so it must be something that has been picked up in the content of the post.

Can you please let us know what things cause a post to be 'caught' so they await moderation - simply so we can avoid them if at all possible, which naturally reduces the workload on whoever is given the moderating job.

I trust that the post as a whole will be judged for its suitability, and the context of anything that is considered 'inappropriate', rather than the simple use of one or two simple words used legitimately but in other contexts could be considered a problem.

Yes.

Inshort, some blog comments are caught to be moderated because of Akismet's spam detection technology. We're still training it. As of this typing, it's caught 2,150 pieces of spam. Some factors which may increase the likelihood:

* Repeated words over and over again (e.g., VIAGRA VIAGRA VIAGRA)
* Many URLs pasted into a post (spam posts often do this)
* Similarity of a comment to a past, actual spam
* If you've never had a comment approved before

Over time it'll get smoother -- it already has since you've noticed!

Hope this helps. :)
