Groups, Roles, and 'Set' vs 'Deed' Land question

I have some (hopefully simple) questions (and yes, I did read the fine manual before posting :))

I've set up a 'Guest' and 'Helper' group roles to allow certain folks to be able to use some of the nifty new group tools on my land: 'Guests' should be able to build even when build is turned off, 'Helpers' can return non-group objects, Freeze/Eject, etc.

I've 'Set' the land to the Group, using the 'Set...' button on the 'About Land->General' tab - but this doesn't seem to have any effect. Example, 'Eject' is assigned as one of Helper role's abilities, but after 'Set'ing the land to the group folks with that role still aren't able to 'Eject' (it doesn't show up on their Pie menu).

a) Do I need to Deed the land to Group to allow these things to work? I _don't_ want to have to do that, for obvious reasons... this seems more than a bit extreme to me - I don't want to (potentially) parcel out ownership of the land, just allow some folks to build and/or do other administrative things.

b) If in fact I must 'Deed' the land to the group to take advantage of the new group tools, what good is 'Set..' to group at all? Does it do anything useful?

I'm confused... please clarify.

Thanks!

Hey Tengu,

Glad you already read. :)

In short, I do know there are some bugs in 1.12.x involving land set, not deeded to group. For example, there's an Ability to set your home to group-set land which worked in earlier versions of SL. This is currently broken.

Besides that, some Abilities do require land to be deeded to a group, since that indicates that the land is indeed group-owned -- which is exactly what's needed for "administrative things". Remember there are also Abilities you can designate to prevent anyone else from selling the land, if you're concerned about this.

And "Set..." has some purposes: for example, if you want people to be able to build and leave objects on your land (even with autoreturn time on), or run group scripts (In About Land > Options there's a toggle, as you can see).
