Hinge Status

As I've noted before, eliminating hinges nearly eliminated my will to live, especially since I was developing a product for sale that is very hinge-centric.

I adapted, and figured out how to complete my design with hinges that were in my inventory before the terrible hinge-purge. I'm now ready to market them but fear that one arbitrary day Linden Labs will make them stop working.

Because I don't want to sell something that might end up worthless in the near future, I'm hoping you'll tell me what to expect where the functionality of existing hinges is concerned.

And please try to do it without saying the words "Havoc 2".

Yes, it is likely that we will stop supporting hinges someday, probably for a few months before new and improved hinges are brought back in. While it would be possible to maintain support through the transition, it would be a lot of blood, sweat, and tears for the LL developers and it would certainly slow things down.

The decision to provide continuous support for hinges, or not, has not been made yet, and it is not yet time to make that decision. When the time comes we'll try to open a thread in the forums to discuss the issue and provide an opportunity for residents to provide input on what to do about legacy hinges.
