I know that some residents have blamed every Second Life problem from increased griefer attacks, packet loss, the CopyBot deal and god knows what else all to open registration. I don't agree. Open registration has given many people from around the world the chance to experience Second Life even if they don't have credit cards or PayPal.
Do any of you remember the griefer attacks last year? They were all from paying accounts and, in my opinion, they were far more severe than the little piddley ones we experienced since open regisration.
This is not a rant but a question. Is Linden Labs considering doing away with open registration? I hope not.

Hi Susie,
At this point LL believes that it's wise to make SL available to the widest possible number of people. One of the numerous reasons for removing credit card requirements is that it results in greater numbers of signups by Europeans, who do not typically keep multiple CCs like we do here in the states. Greater diversity of culture and content inworld benefits everyone. I can't see us thinking differently in the near future.
