People around me have been saying my clothes have the missing image message, however I can see my clothes.
I know there is a missing image problem, but is this a symptom? Would some people get the error message, but others see the proper image?

It is possible that you would see the right thing (because of a local cache) while others see grey or missing image.
A fix for one of these issues should go out this week. I think I may have seen another cause (where *lots* of people are grey instead of just 1 for a few minutes and then suddenly everyone un-greys all at once). I'm not yet sure what is causing the second behavior.
You can try clearing your cache and restarting Second Life, that may force an update.
