I too was upset, overly upset, at the loss of some expensive AOs.

Im not sure why there was no grid wide announcement on this but I received a notecard with the following information:

(The notecard is geared towards those whose items went missing following a return of them, if this doesnt concern you- please see the end of my post!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello! Here are SIX steps you need to take if your inventory is apparently missing. :)

1. The first thing you want to try is search vigorously through your Inventory before any other step can be taken.

Here's a good way to find your returned items, utilizing the inventory tools:

* Open your Inventory
* Select the Recent Items tab
* In your Inventory toolbar, left-click on FILTERS, select MODIFY CURRENT
* When the Recent Items window opens, go to the bottom of that window and adjust the Hours Ago or Days Ago back to the approximate time your Inventory should have been returned from the parcel
* Untick all categories except OBJECTS
* In your Inventory toolbar, left-click on SORT, select DATE
* Go to a parcel where you have enough prim usage to rez all your objects
* Rez objects from your Lost & Found folder, starting from the top, one at a time (Don't delete these objects before reading Step 4!)

2. If after following the above instructions, your returned items have still not rezzed, please be sure to check the land parcel it was returned from and determine whether it was truly returned. If the items being returned were DEEDED to a group, they will be returned to the Resident who originally deeded the objects to the group ONLY IF the objects were not copyable. If the deeded returned objects were copyable, then the objects will not be returned and merely be deleted.

3. The next step you can take if inventory is still missing is you can clear your cache, sign out, and then sign back into Second Life.

Click Edit (top of the screen) and then go to Preferences. In the Network tab, press Clear Cache. Log out at your soonest convenience, and log back in. Be sure to wait a good five minutes if necessary; especially if you have a large inventory, loading all the items in your inventory can occasionally take some time.

4. Still missing inventory? There's still hope! Check to see if the new coalesce feature has anything to do with your missing inventory:

How to find "Lost Inventories" due to the new Coalesce feature

In a feature release a couple of weeks ago, we incorporated a new feature to help with load on our databases when Residents return objects from parcels. As before, lost objects can be found in the Lost & Found folder, but there is a change in how they are displayed. When objects are returned to this folder, they will be coalesced into one or more of the returned objects.

The way it works is that the system randomly selects one of your returning objects as the item to be bundled with, hence the word "coalesce". This one object is actually a combination of all of the other returned objects from the same area. When you rez that object inworld from your L&F folder, it will rez all of your coalesced items in the same formation it was last placed inworld before having been returned to you. If your items are being returned from various areas in a sim, you may receive several of your returned objects in your L&F folder. Again, each these will be bundled with rest of your returned items. This will only happen when multiple objects are returned at the same time from the same parcel or region.

5. If the above steps still have not worked, some residents have found success in uninstalling and then reinstalling Second Life.

6. If youve done all of this and you believe you are still missing returned objects, please file a bug report inworld. Once youve submitted your bug, send an IM to Kona Linden inworld and provide him with your RT# from the email confirmation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It seems this notecard is geared toward missing items which were RETURNED, but we all know it goes beyond that- from missing attachments, missing HUDs, and items we`ve had forever just poofing from inventory. If you had nothing returned recently and are missing item, I would suggest you perform steps #3,5, and 6. As stated, if your missing inventory still is not present:

File a BUG REPORT, then send the RT# in IM to KONA LINDEN.

As we all know, "Bug reports don`t work" right? I got a follow up e-mail saying:

"Hi,

Thanks for your bug report. We are aware of this issue and a fix is
currently being worked on. The item should return to your lost and
found folder within a week.
If you have not received this item, please
send an IM to either Kona Linden or myself, Beast Linden.

Thanks,

Beast Linden"

Hope this helps everyone. I know it`s a very stressful situation; but apparently it IS being taken care of in a good way.

Jesse, your posting is well-meant and will be useful in some ways to some people. However, many of us have already determined that these recovery steps have no bearing on the current missing inventory bug problem. And for what it's worth, the Coalesce feature is not very reliable either. Inventory that should have been returned to my inventory under the right conditions never was, coalesced or otherwise, and I can think of at least 4 other friends in game who report similar issues with the coalesced feature, not to mention the other folks who have also posted about problems with coalescing here on the forums and blog.

^^ Please read my whole post.

The notecard IS infact intended for those who have lost items due to a return of them and theres a POSSIBILITY of that new feature that ones items are there but due to the coalesce feature they arent recognizing them. But as well all know, mising items are not only happening with returns- I mentioned this in my post; they are happening with items we have even had for ever just gone missing from inventory. They are happening with items being returned and simply being eaten up before they even hit our inventory, they are happening with missing HUDs, missing attachments, etc

If you KNOW it is not that new coalesce feature, one needs to try to clear cache and relog, if theyre still missing- re install second life. IF ITS STILL MISSING- file a BUG REPORT and send the RT # to Kona Linden.

They ARE working on getting your items back as also stated in my post. Atleast that was the response I got.

Luckily for me the lady I bought my AOs from replaced every single one of them, if Beast Linden is correct that my items should be back in a weeks time, I will return the AOs back to her. And if Beast is correct, content creators need to advise their customers to follow the steps, and proceed to sending a bug report in if theyre items are still missing- items should return back in a weeks time, as stated in the follow up email to my bug report

Phoenix has posted an update to the blog:
http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/10/17/missing-purchased-items-returning

In short this bug has been fixed and all new purchases should work. The items that were lost after 2006-10-11 and before 2006-10-17 18:00 SLT are not permanantly lost and will be returned. However the process that is doing the returns is currently slow and may take up to a week. More details at the link above.
