Second Life closed to the public while exploit is addressed
A major exploit in 1.11.0 has come to our attention late Saturday night PDT. While we investigate this issue, we have decided to close the grid to new logins.

I will update this posting when our investigation has completed. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

This was posted @ 5am EDT 2am PDT (SLT) - It happens that this occured During the Relay for Life. For the next 2 and a half hours we waited for another word. At 7.11 (4.11 SLT) this was the Next Post:

We are working on a fix for this now, and testing it as I type this.

I will update everyone when we have a deployment window.

And Finally:
Second Life is currently down for an update to fix the major exploit found this evening. The deployment window is from 4:40am to 8am PDT Sunday, July 23.

I will announce here when Second Life is once again open to the public.

Last edited by Karen Linden : Today at 09:07 AM. Reason: Update taking longer than expected.

My Suggestion is simple... and one that could have allowed many of us who were walking the Relay to get some well needed sleep! Give us a time frame.. maybe not a specific one.. how about..

"This is not going to be a short outage."
Or perhaps..
"Give us a Couple of Hours"

No one will complain if you OVER estimate the time needed to fix a bug or 'exploit' , but leave three or four thousand users in the dark the inevitable second guessin, bitching and moaning and whining will start and before you know it the forums become a hot bed of sedition!

Its simple! More Information - Less Grief!

(And Now im off to collect some more $L to Fight Cancer - Go Relay!)

Thanks for supporting Relay for Life!

As I posted here it's not always possible to know how long a fix will take. It's not a question of not being upfront, it's simply not know how complex the problem will be.

That said, we can offer more frequent updates, even if it's just to say 'we're still working on it'. I'll focus on that.
