I still have packet loss.. I had terrible packet loss this weekend. and still have.. but now less - What can I do to reduce it to the more normal ZERO one.. ?

What shall I check.. or is it not my ”side” that do it horrible hard to be in SL.

Hi PetGirl

This weekend we had a few crash/bandwidth related load issues, as detailed on our blog here:
http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/11/26/slowdowns-in-grid-performance/

If you are still having these issues, please let us know. Also, it never hurts to consult our knowledge base. Here's a related article:

http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=273

And some Q&A's I dug out of our knowledge base for you as well:

Q-26 * What do the two bars mean next to my money on the upper-right corner of the screen?

A-26 * The left bar is packet loss, like static interference on a TV, and the right bar is bandwidth, how much is being downloaded at the moment. If you hold the cursor still over each one for a few seconds, it will show you a specific number. Ideally, in a busy area, you want to have as much green (bandwidth) as possible and as little red (packet loss). If you've been standing still for awhile, bandwidth should be close to empty.

Q-27 * I know I have a fast Internet connection, but SL seems to download slow. How do I make things faster?

A-27 * Go to Edit menu > Preferences > Network and move the Maximum Bandwidth slider further to the right. The number is measured in "kilobits per second", and if you aren't sure what this means, you should check with your Internet Service Provider for more details. On a great connection, you can set it to 1000 and if your packet loss bar doesn't go red constantly, it should be OK.

Q-28 * How can I get a better idea what my packet loss is?

A-28 * Go to Help menu > About Second Life and look next to Packets Lost. You want this to be as close to 0% as possible.

Hope these help!

Best,

Chadrick
