Weird cycling ping times and sim slowdown

Hi,

I've been doing a near equivalent to camping for my sins - standing still in an otherwise empty sim in IMs. We've all been there!

I know this sim like the back of my hand, and I'm sure there's no big rezzers or anything, nor big texture changers in the sim.

There's not a lot of randomly firing physics either, although there is a bit.

But every now and again, maybe every 90s or so, there's a huge spike in the ping times (from about 200 to about 2000) for no obvious reason (no one tping in, no new agents, no movement from me) tied to a dip in fps.

It's not obviously a bug - it's not reproducible by any test I can imagine, although it persists across relogs. Io's the affected sim. As both Torley and Robin ought to know if they remember me, I've been around long enough to do all the normal things, and they're not working - is there a problem at your end, or is this something new? I've checked as best I can, but whatroute doesn't trace all the way to the linden servers sadly.

I swear, Eloise... this sounds so familiar. Something similar once happened to me... and although I can't exactly recall what caused it, I think it was a physical frog colliding with a physical lily pad (or somesuch thing) periodically, every 90 secs. The most striking part of what you describe is the "2000 ms" ping, which is what I saw too. Not saying for sure they're exactly the same, BUT... please don't hesitate to ask a Linden Liaison inworld to check it out. I'm sure info should be able to be collected, and if the problem isn't pinpointed, a gridmonkey will be on the case.

Feel free to IM me if I'm on and this still continues... :)
