I played with the pie menu for about 15 minutes... And can't seem to find any new functionality aside from the way it looks. Does anyone know how to use it?

Yes, basically: hold down the right mouse button so the edges are still faded. Then "throw" your cursor in a given direction and release the right mouse button. In effect, it only requires one click and a release--the prior version needed two. If you memorize the directions, you don't even have to look at the pie menu--just keep "throwing" and it works very fast.
This is best shown in a video I suppose!
