Simulator issues and memory?

Torley,

Please direct this to a Linden who knows all about the servers and simulators and how they work?

I saw a group message in the Concierge Group about lagging problems in a sim, and someone said they were told by a Linden this was being caused by too many scripts in the sim, and the memory in the server was swapping to disk.

My symptoms that I see are: chat lag (type for 2-3 minutes then your text begins to appear), walking lag (suddenly you are walking VERY slow, or you just keep going forever like you crossed a sim boundary on the mainland), and slow texture rezzing, and low TD.

Also, watching the stats, if a resident ports in, the Image Time and Sim Time (Other) often shoots WAY up, causing the TD to drop sometimes all the way to .20

We have plenty of scripts on my sim, but none of them can be singled out as using a lot of script time. We have tried hard to be careful about that. We do, however, see like 3700-3800 scripts in the Top Scripts. On a server where we only share with 1-2 other sims, the script time in Estate tools shows as 5-6 ms. On a server with 3 other sims, we see 12-16 ms. At least I think this is the reason for the difference in time? None of us have an answer here :(

My questions:

1) How many scripts are too many?

2) How much memory does a script use?

3) How can we resolve these issues? Remove a bunch of scripts? Remove the heavier scripts?

4) Why, for instance, if we are on sim 915, is the script time 5 ms.. but if we reboot and end up on sim 1250, script time is 16ms? (with no scripts added or removed) Are some servers just better than others? Or is this maybe because of who we are sharing the server with?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give!
