Unable to Log In

I'm not positive this is where this message goes, but I've tried other avenues already with no response. Since the update, I'm unable to get on. I open the login page, and usually it stops responding before I can even enter my name and password. Sometimes, though, I can actually log in, but it freezes and stops responding at the "verifying protocol" bit. I'm at my wits end. I absolutely dig this game, but I don't know what more to do. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. I've cleared caches, reconfigured my firewall, deleted temporary files, everything else that has been suggested. I don't know what more I can do. Help please.

I'm not the only one with this problem, and from what I've seen in other forum threads, there really hasn't been any official response to this particular problem. We've all checked our comps against the system requirements (most of us at least) and we're all getting quite frustrated.

Hi Keary, wish I knew more about this. It really means a lot that you want to get into Second Life so much. Being stuck on "Verifying protocol" can happen for one of several different reasons. Sounds like you've already tried a lot--presumably also *completely* disabling your firewall, disconnecting any intermediary devices like a router, and so on and soforth, right? And that Preview doesn't work for you either?

A common problem, which you may or may not have--but it's worth trying--is you have to re-add SL to your firewall rules with the new version. You may have already seen this, but just in case:
