How long does an unused account remain 'active' if it no one logs on using it? By 'active' I don't mean 'reactivatable', I mean behaving as if the owner was still regularly using it.

If I cancel an account, as opposed to simply not using it, what happens to inworld non-transfer objects owned by that account? Do they remain inworld, or do they vanish?

Hello Doc.

For your first question, depends what kind of account. If it's a Basic account (and therefore not paying Premium monthly and land use fees), it can sit fallow indefinitely. A Premium account in good billing status would be the same. I've seen some examples of this, as well as some Lifetime members which haven't been in SL for a long time.

And for #2, the inworld objects will remain. They do not disappear when an account is deactivated. Infact, it's one of the ways you can check a cancelled account's profile via the object's properties, since the Resident won't appear in Find.
