Can IMs be read by users?

Are IMs sent on channels that users can read using multiple channel scanners, or in any way other than in a normal IM window?

I ask this because someone in the Scripters of Second Life group is stating that is the case.

in the unlikely event this answered post gets looked at again, I have received a message from an additional person saying they can read IMs with scripts.

IMs can not be read via LSL.
