~Regarding Updates~

I would like this answered by someone in the LL offices please, No offense to Torley I promise.

This is in no way a slam on updates in general as I know that updates need to be done and I know a few months back it was decided that updates are to be done on wednesday for some reason. This upcoming week will be 3 wednesdays in a row that I am unable to use SL because of constant weekly updating. My request is that if there are going to be weekly updates that they are staggered a day. It isn't fair that these updates are effecting a certain group of people while others are not inconvenienced at all. Why sometimes can we have rolling grid updates and other times SL is down for at least 5 hours?

Examples:

Player A is a Premium Member who also pays tier and has wednesday off work and uses the morning time to be on SL. These people are Guaranteed to be without the service they pay for, every time an update is released. Which so far has been the last 3 weeks (including this next update).

Player B is also a Premium Member who pays tier and has The weekends off work or any other day and never has to worry about not being able to utilize SL due to an update.

I know I have written about this before and it's pretty obvious what group I fall in under the examples, but I really think it needs to be taken into consideration. I'm also using the Premium acct as an example and is not a slam against basic accts btw. What is wrong with one week just having it on a tuesday or thursday or even a monday? Please listen to your customers, it's not fair that a certain group of people are basically screwed each time there is an update while others are not. It needs to be fair to everyone. A one day change every now and then to make it fair when there are so many updates shouldn't be a big difference at LL. I'm not asking anyone to come in at 3am in their jammies and Elmo slippers to update, I'm not asking LL to abide by my situation only, just please take into consideration that updates on the same day every week are effecting some people badly. No one can say this is fair. It may seem like a good idea to have updates on one day and I agree that they are as long as it's not every week.

Please consider your customers as we are the ones who keep SL alive...



Second on my agenda here is the updates in general. The first update we had with the new version was excellent for me. After a few weeks of worrying if my system could really handle all the new fancy stuff that was added, I was pleasantly surprised with the performance. I was able to have shiny and local lighting on for the first time without issues. I didn't have nearly the amount of lag I had before and rezzing for me was wonderful even in areas I had issues in before. I could log into my heavily decorated land and rez in way less than a minute when before it took alot longer. I was like a kid on Christmas who just got a Red Ryder BB gun. To me it was the best update ever.

Then the second update came and I started noticing issues in building such as prims disappearing, texture repeats not changing until I left edit mode and prims moving back to a starting point after being moved in edit. The last 2 updates have just been horrible for me and others I know. I can barely walk even on my Partners sim which is lag free and I never have issues there. It's like I am walking in molasses. I don't move for a bit then all of a sudden I'm waaaay far away. Textures aren't rezzing for me in a timely manner and most times I don't even see the gray textures but a combination of blank white and some gray. I crashed about 10 times in an hour the other night and I have never had that big of a problem before.

Nothing has changed in my system, my internet connection is fine, drivers updated. Again the first update was great for me. Everything is the same except for the new version of SL. So what happened between the first update and the most recent one? Even my partner who has never really had problems before, is having problems and his pc is way better than mine. I have sent in bug reports and my crash logs and haven't heard anything back. This last update I had hoped things would be back the way it was but what we got was an internal web browser and some lighting changes. I'm not trying to belittle LL but seriously, I have my own web browser and I can easily get on the net anytime I need to when on SL. Also, why can't we at least have an idea of what will be updated next wednesday instead of waiting until the day before? Will more things like silly web browsers be added or is there a performance fix in place?

Sorry if I sound a bit upset but I am just a bit peeved at things lately. I loved the first update and was zooming along fine, then the next updates just made the experience worse and I'm lagging like a drunk snail. It would be like buying a new fancy car and then having all the tires go flat and having to drive around on old spares.

I love SL and I love my friends and what we can be and do in SL. I love owning a little part of the world to call my own. To be honest, if I didn't have the friends I do I wouldn't be here anymore as it really irks me to pay for something and not be completely happy with it. But me like others, are pretty much addicted and just deal with it.
