Griefers Ability to Change Creator Name?

Hi, I am very concerned about two incidents in the past few days that indicate to me that "griefers" are able to change the creator name on prims and textures.

The first incident concerns an indecent cartoon that was passed out by griefers to many members indicating the creator was a member who DID NOT create this cartoon or distribute it.

The second incident concerns last nights grid attack where Linden party hats were used as self replicating items. The creator on some of the hats was properly indicated to be Philip Linden, while the creator on many other of the same hats was that of another member, not Philip.

How is it possible for the griefers to change the creator name on items and is this an exploit that should be looked into? It seems this ability compromises issues of who is the rightful content creator of an item as well as raises concerns about the innocent being blamed for griefing.

Hey katy, this sounds like one of those unfortunate incidents where a name was not changed, but rather, there was an object shared with group that was messed with. :\ We know this causes confusing situations (since it doesn't show who last modified an object) and are looking at ways to better address this--I know Huns Valen and some others had suggestions before that content in the Library should have "Share with group" disabled by default.
