Umm, okay. You say the grid is open, but why can't I log on?

Login still freezes
04-30-2006 19:49
I've attempted multiple times to login to the main Grid, but the Viewer freezes each time (you know when it says "SL may appear to be frozen";). The program stops responding, etc.
I understand there's a lot of people trying to get back in, but...
tried spacing out login attempts... still nothing

STILL can't log in here too...
04-30-2006 19:53
Not very amused by this. Hours later, after not even being able to get in the preview grid, the main grid is "supposedly" open, but I still can't log in. It freezes up at logging in, but if left alone, it will go as far as "Waiting for region handshake." Then a message pops up that says - "Unable to connect. Login packet never received by login server." Now what the heck is going on?

I've merged these too. Please don't start new threads on the same topic--I'm having a look inworld.

If you were able to login, please use HELP menu ---> LIVE HELP and ask.

Those login messages I've had myself; may take some time to clear up. Will continue monitoring the situation. Please see the many discussion threads already started on the SL Forums for the experiences of other Resis.

The Grid is NOT up, Sorry Torley
04-30-2006 20:05
THE GRID IS NOT UP!!

Sorry, Torley - the servers may be humming, but that does us all squat if we can't log in. I have been trying for the past hour to log in, and either my PC freezes and I have to reboot, or I get a "Failed Login" error message.

There is still some sort of SERIOUS problem that needs to be addressed.

Also,I would like to hear from the Lindens as to excatly what will be done to keep this mess from happening again in the future. There must be a technical way to stop these attacks before they choke the grid. If not, then this needs to become the top priority of the next release. The heck with flexible prims, I want access and stability.

Are you listening, Governeror?

Invalid Packet during Region Handshake
04-30-2006 20:07
OK yes yes I know... all about the login issues... login server bogged down... etc.

This seems to be a bit more then that though.

The sim I was last in and where I attempt to log into consistantly gives me an invalid packet on handshake, as well as someone who is able to get into the game being booted when they attempt to teleport there. This seems to me to indicate a bit more of an issue then just a problem with logins being clogged.

I would change to logging into my home location, which did work fine for the person who got booted.. but my home location is also that Sim.

So... if a Linden would like to check on it... the Sim is Balmoral D`Alliez, which is not a mainland sim.

As of 810 SLT I am locked out
04-30-2006 20:09
Frist time I tried it said my comp clock is not aligned with the SL clock, so I rebooted, and now I'm getting a "unexspected error message".

I was just gonna put a reply to another post reporting a simliar problem, but while I MAY start a new post I MAY NOT reply. Does that seem odd to anyone but me?

SL sign in Error, help?
04-30-2006 20:29
When I click sign in on my Sl client, my hourglass appears. Then, no matter how long I wait, nothing happens. When I exit the client, I get a 'program not responding' message with an 'end now' or 'cancel' option. This happens everytime I try to sign in. I think I'll need to re-download SL. But.. if I do that, will I lose the items I have on my current characters?

Merged all of these on the same topic so we can keep better track.
+ Sorry about Darkwood, I'll check on it right now. Next time it happens please use HELP ---> LIVE HELP inworld and just ask; it's a lot faster!

+ Will investigate TPing into Balmoral D'Alliez. Had a few of these, if anyone else seens one, please use LIVE HELP.

+ Login slowdowns and errors still happening but not as much as an hour ago, almost 6,000 Residents inworld last I checked and we'll continue to see if there's anything else gumming up the works.

And no, you won't. That's stored on our servers. You can uninstall and reinstall SL and your avatar and inventory will still be waiting for you. :)

Not Moving! Help!
04-30-2006 21:09
My character isn't moving when I press the up-down arrow keys. Of course he swivels left-right when pressing the left-right arrows keys, but he isn't moving forwards-backwards when I press up-down. What's going on. Please Help!

Latest update from the Announcements & News:

From: Torley Linden
UPDATE - 9:20 PM SLT

Second Life is open. If you've not been able to login and get a "region handshake" error, please do this:
  1. Close SL.
  2. Click on this link: secondlife://Plum to start SL and log you in at a different region. I'm in Plum right now.
  3. IM me inworld and let me know the name of the region you were in last, so we can have it checked out and reconnected to the grid if need be.
Thanxies! :)
