I have been playing SecondLife for quite some time and I have noticed, as I am sure others have too, that most (if not all) of this grid attacks happen on the weekends, when LL staff is at its most minimal. To increase the problem, weekends are when the most people are logged in, especially a “holiday” weekend.
Maybe LL could be a bit more proactive and work out a plant to prevent such attacks instead of just reacting to them. Maybe it would be more cost effective to juggle around some schedules to have a better number of technicians available on the weekends to properly monitor grid stress load, especially after a database malfunction.
I wouldn’t dare to presume to tell LL how to do their business, but it is a suggestion that may relieve some of the stress us residents feel during these down times. As I have stated before, quit trying to rush new concepts into the system and instead make sure that stability is at 100%!

Ah--Timmy, actually, what you describe is actually what has been putting into place based on previous incidents like this: it gets better as we learn from experiences. We have been developing more effective ways to be proactive. You may recall a "fire lane" technique that was used in a previous instance.
Unfortunately, alluding to what you said, here's the conundrum: if we knew what was going to happen ahead of time, we could always get it spot on the nose. The best we can do when something unexpected happens is to deal with it ASAP, as we do very much care that Second Life is up, open, happy and healthy, and warmly receptive for our Residents.
In addition, even though it is the weekends, I know firsthand how many Lindens actively hop on to fix things like this, sometimes from home via remote console if they're not in the office--the wonders of technology.
Thanx for your suggestion!
