resident not in search

sorry, sorry, I know this has been asked and I missed the response and now cannot find it... my questions stems from this: my neighbor when I clikc items he owns, I can see that its his and can go to his profile. I can go to his profile in my friends list, but when I search for him, it says there is no such person.. I'ver tried every combination of searching. what does that mean?
