A Rollback to 11/11 or 11/12 is the only sensible solution!

Dear Linden Lab,

Please consider a rollback to last Saturday or Sunday morning as a means to rectify the wrong that has been done to the SL community due to the mishandling of this copybot fiasco.

If anything at all, what this will do is give LL and the SL community a second chance to immediately take the appropriate steps that should have been taken when this was initially reported and subsequently released to the public.

Personally, my whole SL world has been turned upside down by this incident. My SL business predominantly consists of unique prim designs. I've done a little research since this incident and I am horrified to say that prior to closing, on numerous occasions throughout the day, recently created alts purchased large quantities of original designs from my store. This can only mean one thing. SL will be flooded with my now useless, and no longer unique designs that I labored for hundreds of hours to originate. Not only do these thieves now have full permissions on my desings, but common sense tells us that they will also soon be freebies and/or twisted slightly into other designs in an effort to make it seem like these thieves were the orginal creators.

This would not have occured had LL taken the dire and necessary appropriate intial steps to control this obvious TOS violation. The fact that Robin (btw I love Robin, bless her heart) initially posted that this was not a TOS violation and basically sanctioned it, prompted unscrupulous(S!) people to create the copybot for mass distribution and release it to the general public. They did this with great success by clearly advertising that the copybot was declared legal to use and even refered their customers to Robins blog post. The public enthusiastically purchased this blatant theft tool and obvious copyright infringemetn vehicle, and was then set loose on a frenzy on the SL community to copy as they please anything and everything they laid their hands on.

This was grossly and irresponsibly misshandled by Robin, and to a much greater degree Linden Lab, and Linden Lab should do everything within their power to undo this vicious wrong. Given this, LL should consider it their solemn duty, if not their outright obligation, to do everything within their power to undo this vicious wrong and wipe it clean from it having ever occurred. This can only be accomplished via a complete rollback of the grid to a safer point in time before the occurence of this unfortunate incident.

Will the threat to create a copybot still be present in SL? Yes

But it would not, as it now stands, be widely distributed to hundreds of alts who have, as we speak, bloated inventories consisting of hundreds, if not thousands, of copied merchandise/stolen property.

In partnership with LL, we are now much better able to police the community having been empowered, although belatedly so, by the measures since instituted by LL.

I am certain that history will be much more forgiving of LL and absolve SL as having done the absolute right thing If LL were to immediately effect a complete 24 hour to 36 hour rollback to a time when SL had not yet been affected by this horrible nightmare. And theres no mistake this nightmare is continuing and will continue for the foreseeable future because of the gross missmanagement of this incident by LL.

BTW, I loved SL. and I think many of you know that. But this incident, and especially the manner in which LL decided to handle it, has left me jaded and very sick to my stomach. Frankly, as it stands now, I can not even bear to log into SL anymore :(

Please consider a 24 to 36 hour rollback to a better time in SL. I am certain that were LL to do this the overwhelmingly large majority of the SL community would let out a unified huge sigh of relief and LL will receive much praise for having done so. I trust that in light of recent events, you would be more than justified to do so.

I am not optimistic, but I nevertheless hope that LL has some compassion for all of their content creators and gives this suggestion serious consideration.

I thank you with a heavy heart,

Cheyenne

I'm afraid that rolling back all of the sims in SL creates more issues than it solves, not least of which is that it would result in great content loss, grid wide. Also, rollbacks don't affect accounts so copied items would still exist in peoples' inventories.

I understand your frustration Cheyenne, and going back in time sounds like an optimal plan...if only it were possible. I'm truly sorry you and others have been so affected by this issue.
