I finally had some time to log in and scan through the latest release notes and saw this:

* Parcel "access denied" lines now fade significantly faster with distance.

Does this mean it will now be even HARDER to spot a ban wall before running into it, while moving in a vehicle (sailboat, airplane or otherwise?) It's already extremely difficult to spot them in time to dodge them, and now it sounds like it'll be even harder.

Is there any way we can make this configurable from inside the SL gui?

Previously we could change the ban wall textures, by manually editting an INI file (which was a pain in the kaboose to try to explain to non-tech-savvy people) -- but even if we do that, if the textures are setup to fade "significantly" with distance, we still won't be able to see them...

I know that some people consider ban walls an "eye sore" and would prefer not to be able to see them, but other people rely on being able to see ban walls from a distance so that they don't hit them and get unseated, orbitted, have their client crash, or loose potentially very expensive vehicles as a result. Not to mention ruining your chances of competing if you were in a race or regatta.

Now that 1.10.6 is open, please give them a go and see what you think, and send us your feedback.

Specifically, what I learned from Leyla Linden is that the ban lines now appear in relation to your avatar's position inworld, as opposed to how close you zoom with your camera. And yes, the ban lines aren't so visible from a distance.

If there's enough community demand, we could investigate other options.

We're watching to see what happens in practice (re: races and regattas), and amenable to adjust accordingly.
