Greetings! While checking out 1.12 in Preview, it occurred to me that with the new Roles system, it'd be a piece of cake for multi-group organizations to merge into one single group, thus inadvertantly solving the "We need more groups per person" mini-crisis. So, I started making plans to do this myself. Then, I realized something. I have almost a dozen scripted objects at my place (doors, gates, tools, notecard givers) that are currently set to respond only to my staff group. While it'd be easy to merge my staff group with my "attendees" group, I'm unable to do so without either hard-coding almost a dozen keys into every script, or some sort of scripted method to make a distinction between user roles. So, I just wanted to second Angel's suggestions in this Hotline thread, and make sure they're well heard, particularly the one dealing with this situation. Thanks /139/62/122319/1.html============================= Thanks for the reply, Torley. Unfortunately, without some way to control group member access to group-responsive scripts, I can't go ahead with my plans to combine my two groups. We'll see how things go, though. Oh, and it's not that making groups-within-a-group is hard with the new system, I just rely too heavily on group-detecting scripts to make the change right now.

Cool beans, Felix. As you know, Kelly replied to Angel's many (!) questions there. Also, what you mention: From: Felix Uritsky While checking out 1.12 in Preview, it occurred to me that with the new Roles system, it'd be a piece of cake for multi-group organizations to merge into one single group, thus inadvertantly solving the "We need more groups per person" mini-crisis. So, I started making plans to do this myself. This is pretty interesting, isn't it, because this first monolith of a new Group system is actually planned to be followed by more enhancements. Which along the same lines of what you said, would ideally include "groups within a group" for complex societal hierarchies. Like tribes that make up part of a larger band, or wings of a military formation, or branches of a corporation, etc. Another one of these great "When it's here, I'll look back and laugh!" things, I hope.
