Educational Sandboxes?

OK Torley, You have made it quite clear that LL really would like to put sandboxes behind them by turning them over to private control. That’s really not a bad thing. Private SB's would definitely have advantages and disadvantages. For instance a texture vendor could do very well having such a private group in their private sandbox, and they being the exclusive vendor. They would no doubt inherit a host of clients. On the other side though any one crazy enough to take on such an endeavor might just as well start an S&M club. If you could turn complaints in to $lindens then everyone would want to do it. OK here is the question. The whole purpose (true purpose) of a sandbox is to learn or to sharpen your skills. This applies to both prim builders and scripters. So why doesn't LL offer private sandbox land at educational pricing? An island for the same price educators pay. Also if this does come about and SB's become private. It may be wise for LL to have an arbitrator to handle complaints of abuse from both sides, Which ironically is the reason you would like to be rid of them

Hiya Tana — actually:

That's not exactly the case. They're a valuable public outlet for creativity, but as I've mentioned before, Resident-run sandboxes *do* offer advantages in configurability and more — basically, run it the way you like, if you own one.

I think there are some Academics in Second Life who have a portion of their regions set aside for sandboxes, as well as notable creative spaces like Dreams and their artistic showcases. Well-worth looking into! :)

(And now I am curious what a "Shawnee NDN Girl!" is!)
