Griefing Calls

Rumor has it that the Lindens will no longer be responding to any griefing calls; that sim owners will be responsible for policing griefing in their sim; and that individual users will be responsible for adequately defending themselves.

Is this true?

If so, I think this is a big mistake.

1. If SL hadn't allowed unverified accounts, griefing would not be as big of a problem. If you're going to jettison griefing call responses, then GO BACK TO VERIFIED ACCOUNTS.

2. The vast majority of users have no idea what to do or what to buy so as to defend themselves.

3. I didn't get involved in SL to spend my time playing some high tech version of cowboys and Indians. I am here for other content -- not pushing, shooting, and shielding. What a bore. What a disruption. How upsetting. On just one day last week, I was griefed three times. I am not going to stick around SL for that.

4. If this policy change is enacted, SL will probably be ruined for many and largely abandoned by many, like what has happened to other MMORPGs, because of the explosion of malevolent elements within the game -- which almost no one wants to spend time and energy dealing with.

Please respond.

You can read Daniel's first blog post on necessary changes to the abuse reporting systems Here. Please continue to follow the blog for more info on planned changes, including more effective ways for you to report/ban and for us to indentify/remove those individuals and behaviors that make Second Life feel unwelcoming or unsafe.
